Learning Fruits @ Kids Arabic Club!

A fantastic first session was had by all children that attended our Kids Arabic Club on Tuesday. Children were taught a variety of fruits in the Arabic language and participated in a variety of fun activities to aid them in their learning. Our tutor spoke only in Arabic; implementing our immersion strategy, which is one of the best ways for a child to absorb and learn a new language.

Cooking Activity-Serving an Ethiopian Meal!

Our home-schooled children have been learning about Ethiopia and Liberia during History.

They took part in a cooking activity serving an Ethiopian meal.

Ethiopian food is served on Injera-a special kind of flat bread that looks like a gigantic sourdough pancake.

Food is piled on the Injera, and diners tear off pieces of the Injera and use it to eat the food on top of it.

The food is made up of a mixture of cottage cheese and yogurt and Dora Wat (a spicy chicken recipe).

Arabic Dictation and Listening Drills!

Our home-schooled children have been constructing sentences in the Arabic Language.

There are two ways to form sentences in Arabic: You can manipulate definite and indefinite nouns and adjectives, or you can pull together nouns, adjectives, and verbs.

The children have also been practising spellings which is important because it aids in reading and increases their vocabulary.

Science Investigations-Growing French Breakfast Radishes in Pots!

Some of our home-schooled children have been conducting science investigations.

Over time, they have been carrying out a collection of investigations around the topic of plants, looking at life cycles, factors affecting growth, parts of a plant as well as composting and plants that we eat.

They have been  identifying and describing the functions of different parts of flowering plants: roots, stem/trunk, leaves and flowers.

This also included the following:

•  exploring the requirements of plants for life and growth (air, light, water, nutrients from soil, and room to grow) and how they vary from plant to plant

•  investigating the way in which water is transported within plants

•  exploring the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal.

The children are looking forward to many more exciting activities that are yet to come!

Exploring Abstract Art Using Bright and Bubby Colours and Forms!

Our home-schooled students have been expressing themselves and have created some vibrant abstract artwork.

They demonstrated mixing shades and creating some Drip Painting.

This involved model mixing a range of shades with each colour of paint which demonstrated using a range of tools to drip and spatter the paint onto the paper.

They have also been introduced to the work of artist Jackson Pollock.

This activity has helped develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space in the context of making a painting from shades.

Tutors discuss why the River Nile was so important!

In History our home-schooled students have been looking at the River Nile and why it was essential for survival to ancient Egyptians.

The children have learnt that in ancient times the people of ancient Egypt depended on the Nile to survive.

The River Nile runs through Egypt and most people live along and around it today.

This was also the case in ancient times as this is because the land near the Nile is a place where crops can be grown, and the rest of Egypt is desert.

To aid the children in understanding the above they helped create a model of the River Nile.

GCSE Chemistry Topic-Organic Chemistry

One of our home-schooled GCSE student has been learning all about Organic Chemistry.

A beautiful well presented poster was created to showcase the elements involved.

This poster is a great educational resource that will help in revision and to improve understanding and reinforce learning.
