Session 4 – Planting Seeds @ Garden Club

Garden Club attendees yesterday had a great time planting a variety of seeds in growing trays and propagators. The seeds planted included tomato, carrot, beetroot, cucumber, strawberry and herb seeds. In addition the children finished planting the fruit trees, which they started during the previous session. They also put out our brand new waterproof cushions for the outdoor classroom seating area. All attendees had a great time gardening in the beautiful weather alhamdulilah.

Investigating Plate Tectonics in Science!

In Science some of our children have been creating a tasty model to investigate plate tectonics.

This was a hands-on activity to teach students about plate tectonics.

The model describes the structure of the Earth’s plates and the Earth’s layers as well as the theory of plate tectonics.

This activity was completed after initial instruction on the layers of the Earth and tectonic plates.

Arabic Food Vocabulary & Cooking session!

Our home-schooled children have been busy learning about food vocabulary during their Arabic Class.

To help make the learning fun they experienced a cooking lesson which provided a practical experience with many essential skills such as reading, following directions, and measuring.

This activity provided a rich learning environment whereby children would also communicate instructions for the recipe and use phrases to help converse in the Arabic Language.

European Art: Drawing Broken Buildings

Our home-schooled children have focusing on drawing skills, looking carefully at the work of European artist Anselm Kiefer.

Using the Photo pack of images and a PowerPoint to scaffold the discussion of Anselm Kiefer’s work they have presented some great artwork of crumbling buildings.

The children looked at facts about Anselm Kiefer’s life and work and their artwork focused on  features of a building, including windows and doors.

Garden Club Continues Tomorrow with a Fun Planning Session @ 1.30pm!

Come and join us tomorrow for session 2 of our Garden Club! Our home-schooled children will be researching and planning how to plant their purchases from last week in our learning garden.

Session 1 – Garden Centre Trip @ Garden Club

The home-schooled students that attended Garden Club last week had a great time exploring the variety of plants, seeds and bulbs that B&Q had on offer. They made some great purchases for our learning garden including seed potatoes, onions sets, tomato, carrot, beetroot, cucumber and strawberry seeds. They also bought a beautiful apple tree and one of our home-schooled parents kindly donated  a pear and plum tree.
