COVID-19 and Tuition Club onsite closure

COVID-19 and Tuition Club onsite closure

Currently Tuition Club takes place on site – but in line with the latest developments and government guidance, it may become difficult to sustain classes on site. However, in order for our children not to miss out or fall behind, then we are already making preparations for all our children to learn in our Virtual Classrooms online temporarily from Monday 23rd March 2020. As mentioned previously we do not wish our children to miss out on their tuition and work, nor fall behind the standards set at the centre. By the grace of Allah, we have over 3 years of experience teaching online; and have tailored resources that work in tandem with the resource on site. For the past 18 months we have held online classes for groups of children from all around the country and world and many of our onsite staff already teach in our virtual classrooms.

We will begin adding children over the next few days into our online classrooms via Skype – a video communications program everyone is familiar with, but which is a powerful tool allowing us to deliver a great experience to the class. Please note you may receive calls from our admin staff during this process.

We will be forwarding technical information, how to setup and take part in the classes. The children will also receive their full week’s timetables moving forward inshaaAllah.

If you have not already joined, then you should subscribe to one of our social media channels – Telegram, Twitter or by email on our Website.

May Allah keep us all well and safe; and upon Him is our reliance and final return.

Kind regards

The Tuition Club

Making Pancakes- With a Side of Science!

Our home-schooled girls aged 13-14 have been ‘Raising- Standards’ in their science experiments! The group enjoyed a fun session at the Tuiton club making Pancakes. Ever wondered what does science have to do with pancakes?.. well,  when you make pancake batter you are mixing a whole range of different chemicals – so all sorts of reactions take place in the cooking! The dry ingredients contain flour and sugar, as well as salt and maybe either baking powder or baking soda. Flour supplies protein, molecules made of lots of amino-acids joined in chains, along with starch, which similarly is made of lots of simple sugar molecules joined in chains.

We have been Working at Greater Depth!

Our home- schooled children ages 6-7 have been working at greater depth in their reading and writing!.Working at greater depth means a child is not only on their way to master the expected stage for their age, but able to delve into it in more detail. In English, working at greater depth might look like using different sentence types and lengths, being aware of how their audience affects their tone and style, or writing with a ‘reader’s eye’, re-reading and editing their own work to ensure it’s enjoyable to read.

Tuition Club’s Young Gardeners Discover Their Organic Produce!

As you may remember, last year our little green-fingered students were learning all about planting in our Learning Garden at the Tuition club. As spring approches us, our children are excited to have discovered their little seeds grow into beautiful organic produce!. Children can learn new skills, have fun, play and develop self-confidence by spending time in the garden tending plants and growing their own food. Most children enjoy being outdoors and love digging in the soil, getting dirty, creating things and watching plants grow. People of all ages can enjoy gardening, but our children in particular have had lots of fun and gaining special benefits. Gardening is educational and develops new skills including:

  • Responsibility – from caring for plants
  • Understanding – as they learn about cause and effect (for example, plants die without water, weeds compete with plants)
  • Self-confidence – from achieving their goals and enjoying the food they have grown
  • Love of nature – a chance to learn about the outdoor environment in a safe and pleasant place
  • Reasoning and discovery – learning about the science of plants, animals, weather, the environment, nutrition and simple construction
  • Physical activity – doing something fun and productive
  • Cooperation – including shared play activity and teamwork
  • Creativity – finding new and exciting ways to grow food
  • Nutrition – learning about where fresh food comes from

We look forward to sharing what our children find under the soil and what they will be cooking with their fresh produce… watch this space!

Writing a Descriptive Account During English Class

Descriptive writing imprints images into the reader’s mind, making you feel as though you’re “right there.” Its all about engaging the five senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch to transport the reader and stir emotion. By choosing vivid details and colorful words, good writers bring objects, people, places, and events to life. Instead of merely telling you what they see, they use their words to show you.

DIY Dinosaur fossils with Sour Dough!

Our home schooled children in year 3 and 4 have been learning all about fossilization during their science lesson. The children have learnt that fossils are the preserved remains or traces of living things from the past. There are many ways to form fossils. The experiment conducted by the children modelled the casting and moulding method. The dent made by the object, in this case were mini- dinosaur figurines in the clay is the mould. It shows the detail of the object’s surface. Groundwater leaks in to the moulds and then evaporates, leaving minerals behind. The minerals dry up and harden and this creates a cast. The children went on to pour pva glue into the moulds and baked in the oven to harden up to reveal their very own fossils!
